Nail

The nail is formed by a head, a shank and a point. These components may vary for different types of nails.

We can identify nails:

  • According with the shape of the shanks:
    • Smooth nail;
    • Ring nail;
    • Twisted nail;
    • Barbed nail.
  • According to its point shape:
    • Diamond point;
    • Beveled point (marked).

Smooth nail: This is the most common type of nail. The shaft is round and smooth. Its point can be diamond or beveled (marked).

Ring nail : The shaft contains a threaded portion consisting of multiple ring like threads rolled completely around the shank. It is resistant to withdrawal.

Twisted nail: This nail is made from square-section wire with helical flutes for the full leght of the shank. It is resistent to withdrawal.

Barbed nail: The shaft contains repetitive indentations and ridges which may or may not be symetrical.
